You Could Be Allergic to Those Synthetic Braids + Twists

Manufacturers of synthetic hair coat them with alkaline base sprays to prevent the hair from molding. This alkaline base PH is so high as compare to the PH of natural hair; hence, it provokes serious allergic reactions in many people.

Rinsing with apple cider vinegar removes the alkaline base coat, which in turn will stop your scalp from itching.

Apple Cider Vinegar Soak to Remove Chemicals from Synthetic Hair
Remove the synthetic braiding hair from the pack. (Make sure you leave the rubber band to keep the hair bundled together.)

Fill your sink (bowl) with one part of ACV and three parts of hot water.

Add the synthetic braiding hair to the water and let it soak for about 30 minutes until you see the white residue rising from the hair.

Thoroughly rinse the synthetic braiding hair with cool water, squeeze excess water and let the hair air-dry.

Spray some leave – in conditioner and/or cream to give some moisture back to the hair.

Any store-bought ACV / vinegar will work just fine. Also, once the hair is completely dry, the ACV scent disappears.

The Truth About Synthetic Hair and Why Your Scalp is Itching

Synthetic hair has come a long way in recent years.  In some cases it is difficult to tell the difference.  The texture feels almost like human hair.  As a matter of fact, with some of the higher quality synthetic pieces, you would never know they were not natural human hair if you didn’t have the human hair right next to it to compare!

The most appealing aspect to synthetic hair is it can often be worn right out of the box with little or no styling.  The fiber used has "memory" for wave, curl and volume which lets hair bounce back into place with minimal effort -- the curl pattern is permanently set.  It can even hold up in bad weather and can guarantee no drooping or frizzing.

However, what synthetic hair offers in ease, it lacks in versatility.  It cannot be styled to look many different ways like its human hair counterparts. Only special Heat Friendly synthetic hair is heat style-able to change the curl pattern. Keep in mind, even the heat friendly fiber can be difficult to style as synthetic fiber is more resistant to change. Synthetic hair is also less durable than human hair.

Synthetic hair is a polymer. It is composed of fine plastic fibers, made to look just like human hair.  Basically, synthetic hair is made from low-grade acrylic that is heated and strung into strands to make individual hair fibers. The strands are then laced or tied into extensions and hairpieces. Typically, these types of synthetic hair fibers are used in costume wigs, and lack the movement and texture of real hair.  The appearance of these fibers is waxy and plastic.  The more sophisticated synthetic hair has texture and luster, and could be passed off as human hair. The fibers range in type from straight to kinky/curly with coarse surfaces to silky/smooth surfaces. The complex methods of spinning synthetic polymers into fibers include using volatile solvents and a spinneret to form multiple continuous filaments. Both, mono-filament fibers and poly-filament fibers are used to fabricate the hair. Typically, fibers of mod-acrylic, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, polyester, nylon are used for artificial hair.  Each of these fiber types are made by combining two or more polymers in one chain via melt spin or solvent spin processes.

And you wonder why your SCALP is ITCHING!!! Synthetic hair is a treated plastic that you more than likely are allergic too.  You can soak the hair in APPLE CIDER VINEGAR and let dry before installing the hair.

CURE and STOP ITCHING SCALP That You Get From Individual Braids or Twists

How to Cure and Stop Itchy Scalp with Braids ! Ladies with all the amazing hairstyles you can get from braids, there is always that small negative factor from them which we all experience when we have braids.  ITCHY SCALP!  I sometimes scratch from the time I get the extensions until the time I get them taken out.  But, have no fear, I have the cure for tht ITCHY SCALP!!  And it is called  ANTISEPTIC.... yep, ANTISEPTIC!!  Try some good old antiseptic on your scalp only. I suggest Sea Breeze or plain old Witch Hazel which are the most popular choices.  Apply it to a cotton ball or swab and dab it on the itchy areas on your scalp. This can keep you from "itch hell" until you decide to shampoo your braids, or twists.  Remember, this shouldn't take the place of regular cleansing.

JUST GOT BRAIDS AND HAIR IS ITCHING!

So, why does your scalp itch and what can you do about this annoying problem?

An allergic reaction: This is more likely if you wear braid extensions. It's possible to experience an allergic reaction to the chemicals used to treat the hair. It's a likelier occurrence in synthetic hair than human hair, but regardless of the type of hair you use, it's important to find a high-quality brand with fewer irritating and low-quality chemicals in it. Some women solve this problem by rinsing their extension hair (particularly kanekalon) in a solution of vinegar before they install it.

If treating the hair doesn't work, be sure to oil your scalp with a natural oil such as jojoba or coconut oil or a lightweight product like grape-seed oil. You can usually find these in health food stores or grocery stores that cater to an organic or health food market.  Apply oil to your fingertips and gently work it onto your scalp between your braids.
